It is beyond tragic that the first Afro American elected as President of the United States is a man that Margaret Sanger would have approved of, rather than one that Martin Luther King would have approved of.
Congratulations, President-Elect Obama, but…
What, just because you are born you think you are safe?
Not when you threaten their business.
Two pro-life volunteers participating in a round the clock prayer vigil were sickened last week, after being exposed to fumes from an oily substance that had been spilled across the driveway at George Tiller’s late-term abortion clinic, Women’s Health Care Services in Wichita.

Praying for the entire body of Christ (even the dead ones)
I came across a very good explanation of the tradition of praying for the dead in the month of November, it’s concise and scriptural. He concludes:
We are a family and we’re all in this together. One thing I’m learning as a Catholic is that we really are one huge family in Christ. When we pray for the departed we are asking God “who is a consuming fire” to assist those who are undergoing their final repentance and purification as they prepare to entere His All-Holy presence.
Amen to that. If you are curious about “Catholic” beliefs on purgatory, read the whole piece.

And He was passing through from one city and village to another, teaching, and proceeding on His way to Jerusalem. And someone said to Him, “Lord, are there just a few who are being saved?” And He said to them, Strive to enter through the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able. “Once the head of the house gets up and shuts the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock on the door, saying, ‘Lord, open up to us!’ then He will answer and say to you, ‘I do not know where you are from’. “Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets’, and He will say, ‘I tell you, I do not know where you are from; DEPART FROM ME, ALL YOU EVILDOERS.’

Post election weariness, hope
I think it’s safe to say that I have suffered a little post-election depression this week. The election of the most far-left pro-death president in American history has got me down a bit; although I am thrilled for my black brothers and sisters and for what it may mean to them. My primary method of dealing with it is to avoid the news like the plague, watch a lot of EWTN and read some of the Song of Ice and Fire series. (About that series — nothing like a bunch of politically motivated medieval violence to put some perspective on things.) This seems to be helping a bit.
But what I have come away with especially is this awareness of the need for penance. I fasted for nine days leading up to the election and I felt like that really was just the beginning of the prayer and penance that needed for the spiritual transformation of myself, my family, and society at large. It felt humbled, yet stronger. Today, I found a post that addresses this very issue and suggests penance before politics. I have to agree and I pledge that I’m going to make it a part of my daily life. I just need to figure out how.
Definition upheld
Proposition 8 passed in California, praise God! I have personally suffered from the destruction our culture has wrought upon marriage through the change in divorce laws, the advent of contraception and abortion, and the acceptance of “single” parenthood. I just couldn’t stomach the success of another assault as profound as changing the definition itself. It’s an institution based on biology, and to say any different borders on newspeak. I know it’s not over, but for now the people have spoken…as opposed to one activist judge.
The LDS Church may be apostate but right now I am so grateful for their support. Thank you, Mormons!

Worry warting
I can’t help but be very concerned about the upcoming election. If Prop. 8 doesn’t pass in California, I think my head will explode. I’m in the middle of a fast that I started 9 days before the election, to do penance for any part I have had in a culture that has so thoroughly devalued marriage that we don’t even know what it is anymore.
Luckily there are folks out there who are doing a pretty good job explaining things:
